DISTANCE: Far To(o) Close
Visual identity design, typeface design, exhibition theme, 2021CONCEPT
The Eastern aesthetic perfectly aligns with the reflective nature of this unique period. In the context of the pandemic, both students and teachers may have found it challenging to experience the usual enthusiasm for communication and collaboration within the classroom. Instead, isolated in their personal spaces, they engage with their computer screens, quietly contemplating and deepening their understanding of design. The solitude of one person, one room, creates an environment ripe for introspection, underscoring the beauty of independent thought.
The Oriental aesthetic not only captivates as a distinctive visual style but also communicates that Australia and RMIT deeply value students from diverse cultural backgrounds. It serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity, reflecting inclusivity and global awareness.
"FAR" and "CLOSE"
These two concepts of space symbolize the journey of our exceptional graduates as they navigate the field of communication design. In this journey, the process holds greater significance than the final outcome. Thus, the theme emphasizes the transformation of the 2021 graduates—from novices in design to skilled professionals. While distance may seem like a barrier, it is one that these graduates strive to overcome with the support of their school and instructors.
Design Style
- A blend of sharp and blurred imagery to evoke a deeper sense of spatial depth.
- The use of noise to soften the impact of the graphics, enhancing a sense of realism.
Color Palette
- Traditional Eastern primary colors (red, yellow, blue, black, white)
- This style embraces muted tones and low saturation, creating a subtle visual hierarchy. Such an aesthetic provides a calm backdrop, allowing the audience to fully immerse in and appreciate the students' work in an understated yet sophisticated setting.
